Chris you can but shell grit in any size bag at the pet shop at southgate plaza reynella.

I dont know really if we need it here where we live as our water isn't that soft you add it to the water which helps to stabilize the ph when you have really soft water. I haven't used it myself as my water last time I checked it was 120ppm gh and 40ppm kh which is ok. Being that you only live up the road I wouldnt say there would be much of a difference. I know from reading a couple of Merrilyns posts that she adds a good handful to her tanks as Melbournes water is very soft which would cause the ph to crash.
