my tank is currently full of mangrove root and im thinking about taking it all out and doing a bare tank. the mangrove roots currently buffer my water to about 6.4. the tap water i put in to the tank is about 7.6 and very soft.
my question is would my discus, cardinals, rummy noses and sterbai be ok if i ran the tank without buffer at 7.6-7.8??

They would all be fine my sisters discus are in water with a similar ph her tap waters ph is 8 .Her discus even breed in the high ph levels so they must be happy. The only thing though dont raise the ph to quickly just do small daily water changes until you get the ph the same as your tap water.

I would with the last water change for the week remove a piece of mangrove root b4 adding new clean water. This will help increase the ph slowly, repeat each week until all wood is removed and test ph weekly after this process, this depends on how many pieces of mangrove root u hav in the tank.
