How long should the lights be on?

Hey how long should my fish light be on for my 90 gallon discus tank? some people say 4-5 hours and than show people say 8-12 hours ?

That all depends if your tank is planted or not.

If planted 16 on 8 off is a good balance between growth and fish. If no plants it is entirely up to you but I recommend at least 8 hours of darkness.

If planted it actually depends on the type of plants you have and therefore their particular demands. Some species require far more (and intense) light than others.
You may need to give a little more info about your tank, particularly depth and type of lighting, and inhabitants to get accurate advice.
