Hey All,

I can't remember the way to calculate tank volume  I had a url, but cant find it. I'm wanting to calculate the volume of my standard 3ft tank, 36x14x18inch.

From memory it went somthing like this ...

LxWxH divided by ? ... which would give you gallons, then times the total by 3.85 to get litres.

Thanks,

Dee. :)

Work in metric -soooo much easier....

L x W X H divided by 1,000

Your standard 3 foot works out at 92x36x46 = 152352 divided by 1000 =

152 litres. Don't forget to allow for water displaced by gravel, rocks, driftwood etc.

it is easy go metric man.
your tank is 36*2.54=91.4cm long, 14*2.54=35.56cm wide and 18*2.54=45.72 cm high. (1 inch=2.54cm or 25.4mm)
multiply these for volume= length * width * height = 148663cubic cm.
as this equates to 0.148663 cubic metres and we have 1000 litres per cubic metres, then your tank has capacity of 148 litres.
now allow for gravel and a bit of distance from the top and presto you have your capacity........and a free lesson in calculating volumes (remember your science classes?????)
have fun .....Jim.

Heckelboy thanks for the calculator on the arowana site, it's very cool ! even has calculations for medicating etc.

Thanks to all for the info.

Cheers,
