Thinking of getting discus

Hello everyone
I am thinking of getting discus so hence I joined this forum.
Can anyone recommend a type of discus for a newbie?

Are there any basic requirements i need to know
apart from water quality?

Yes you need to read and read and then read some more! Take your time and learn as much as you can.
When you are ready adults for new owners are better as they are more forgiving in terms of water and feeding. Juvies need multiple feeds per day to reach their full potential and lots of water changes and clean tanks for good growth. Adults on the other hand have done their growing or most of it and so while you still need clean tanks the feeding isn't as heavy which means the tank stays cleaner so water changes can just be weekly. Can't overly stress the reading.

Read, read some more, and when you've read as much as you can, take a break then do more reading.

I started off with some adults and some juvies and ended up losing the juvies. An expensive lesson!
