I am about to convert my tank and need to temporarily relocate my inhabitants namely 1 discus, 3 red rainbows, 6 neon tetras, 3 clown loach & a sucker fish (forgotten technical name). My husband will kill me if I buy another tank so I was thinking about putting them in a large plastic container with their own water , filter heater and air stone. Any problems with that? I assume it's going to take 4 weeks to cycle my new setup before they can go back. Thoughts?*

discus will hate it, but the others will be fine as long as you use as much furniture/gravel from the old tank as possible... the more bare it is the more they freak out.

You could try the lfs and see if they could "rent" you a tank.
The fish might even enjoy having a sleep over at someone else's place.

Hi Nev, unfortunately I don't have the option of 'renting a tank' and don't really know anyone who has a tank that I could loan/offload the fish.

I hope they survive in the interim plastic tub substitute :S

Ok, ummmm......
What are you converting to?
4 weeks? Can't you use you current filer media, your going to have to filter the tub, maybe setup a couple of sponge filters and have them seeded ready for the conversion.
So maybe 4 weeks is the absolute max.

Hi Nev, yes I have a matured filter so it should cut back the time they are elsewhere.. Suppose looking at worse case scenario :)
