can anyone tell me how offen or how do you tell when you metal halide
globe

i assume you mean how often to change a metal halide globe?

every 12 months for coral, it will still light up but the spectrum will drift, for fresh water it doesnt matter as much you could get 18-24 mounts out of one till it goes out.
