Dam just realised that I have knocked my filter plug out. could have been done yesterday arvo. Is it too late to turn it back on? Will I have to pull the whole thing apart and clean it again :(

If its less than 24 hours just plug it back in any more and you'll have to give all the insides a good wash with tank water.

any more then 3 days strip sterilize and start again.

Excellent news. That saves me a lot of work. That filter is piggy backed onto a giant pond filter. Phew Thanks

Noobish question but so you have to unplug your filter during water changes? and why?. I leave mine going.

I think alot of people are running sump filtration and as you rely on the water level in your tank to feed your sump via bulkhead or overflow.
As the water level drops with WC you will end up running your sump dry. This is why we turn the filter of. If your running a canister you should be fine to leave it running whilst doing WC as long as you don't go below your intake.

I turn my heater off during WC and only when my digital thermometer starts beeping when the temperature falls do I race to turn it on again.. Feel like homer sometimes

I don't turn mine off only the heaters. I just knocked the plug out when I was changing over a pump.

I turn my canister filters off as the splashing water can be quite loud, especially if others are trying to watch the TV.
