Hi Guys and Gals,
I have just started setting up my Discus tank and thought I would post some pics for your recommendations.
Tank is a 5x2.5x2 I have a sump with heaps of bio running at 300LPH and a Eheim Pro3e connected to a Deltec 39W UV Sterilizer.
Current PH is 7.0 and ORP is at 450 but as I only put the driftwood in today I am hoping it will get a bit lower than that before I introduce my Discus.

what a fantastic tank.
great job!
cant wait to see it stocked :D
be sure its well matured before adding the discus, also 7 is fine, no need to lower it IMO.
Our farms in Malaysia breed their fish between 8-9 as that is the normal ph there.
Discus are A LOT more flexible than they are given credit for.
Keep it simple, your tap water is fine- be sure to dechlorinate it though.

I would be worried that if the discus freak out they might hurt themselves on the pointy branches. That's my opinion, I think it looks great

Thanks for the comments bro,
The tank has been setup and running for over 2 years now as I use to use it as my Baby Stingray tank, so the filters are well established.
The only addition to the tanks filtration is the UV Light.
I have been contemplating getting 5 Wild Heckels
what a fantastic tank.

I stopped in there a few days ago. They seemed to still be setting the place up and had very little stock unfortunately. I am looking forward to seeing up all up and running though.

Hi Everyone, sorry for my ignorance, but I'm a bit confused, "Malasya breed their discus in a ph of 8 or 9" I thought discus eggs needed to be in acidic water in order for the sperm to penetrate the eggs and fertilize them,
could someone please explain, thanks max.

a lower ph makes it easier for sperm to enter the egg, in malaysia I'd be suprised if the ph was as high as 8 or 9 they get plenty of rainfall and rain water has a naturally low ph

not sure on how they breed them over there but this is the ph im told, also rainfall will have less to do with the ph of tap water as dissolved mineral content would. IE victoria has near neutral relatively soft water and very little rainfall in comparison to say QLD or NSW which both have harder and slightly more alkaline water.
Im no expert though, and ive never been to Penang, i can only repeat what im told im afraid.

Sydney tap water is harder due to addition of lime that's why with a kh of ~4 and a gh of ~ 130ppm the ph is 7.4-7.8 it's the only way the chemistry makes sense. A bloke I work with used to work at Sydney water the naturally low ph of surface rain water was bad for their pipework and equipment so they adjust it.
