New Breeding Tank

I am just about to get a 30" x 16" x 16" tank. I was wondering if this was enough to also grow up the possible babies to a selling size i.e. 2". I was wondering what to filter it with. I have a sponge filter and fluval 1 internal power filter? What size heater will I need?

That size tank will be fine for spawning, and you can certainly raise fry in there for the first two months or so. The parents will need to go into another tank, and it will depend a lot on how many fry you have, and how quickly they grow.

I change 50% of the water twice daily on fry tanks. Once in the morning, and again at night before lights out. Clean water is so important for growing fry.

As they grow, I like to move the larger ones into another tank to allow the smaller ones to catch up. With a very large spawn you may need three tanks to give them all room to grow.

You can run your fluval and the sponge filter both in the tank. When the pair spawn, you will need to remove the fluval and just run the sponge alone, so the fry don't get sucked into the filter.

Once the fry are bigger, you will need both filters again.

Would be better to pick up another double sponge filter as I have some air pumps lying around? I can exchange when I sell my next tiger lotus Already made $120 profit best $45 bucks I ever spent.

Sponge filters are terrific in breed tanks and fry rearing tanks. I know the double sponge filters you are talking about. They are great.

You can clean one side each week without disturbing the beneficial bacteria in the tank. Running two double filters in a fry tank would be ideal.
