I am setting up a tank today. How long does the tank need to sit before adding Discus. I have 6 adults arriving tomorrow or Monday? Someone just said 6-8 weeks. I bred many discus a number of years ago and never really waited. Any comments?

Do you have a fully cycled filter in your tank?? If not you will have to do huge water changed everyday

if you add any fish into this tank with out it being fully cycled all your fish will be dead in a matter of weeks from amonia poisoning. if you are intent on adding them , you will need to test for ammonia twice a day and do water changes accordingly

I have used SeaChem Prime and Stability and am using an ammonia alert

Does not matter. You have not established your biological filter. Do it your way though, be an expensive lesson

You need to research and understand the Nitrogen Cycle before you consider adding fish.

You cant be serious can you??? do some research on water quality for your discus first and how to cycle a tank

As long as you don't skimp on Stability (i.e. use correct dosages everyday for 8 days as recommended) you shouldnt lose your discus. I have used this stuff and it does work.

That's rubbish. I will put money on the fact that no matter how much you dump in it won't stop your fish from suffering through the cycling process.

And you will not have cycled the tank properly in 8 days either.

this is one bet i will definately put my money on. People who think that because they throw some liquid in their filter for 8 days will cycle their filter, should not be keeping fish in my opinion. Perhaps before giving such dangerous advice you get on the net and research biological filtration and the nitrogen cycle. Any one who takes advice like this blindly is really heading for a train wreck. But go ahead and torture and kill your fish it just creates more business for the rest of us.

I would like to know how many fish survive this ordeal. Sounds like someone just headed into discus keeping hell 101. Its horrible watching fish die in your fishtank or killing them yourself through incompetence we have all done it, This guy just did it with discus. May the force be with you bdud and I hope you dont have to give boxters any cash for porsche petrol. Those things use alot of fuel.
