So I bought some kids play sand. Most of it was really fine but I washed most of the clay and fine stuff out and now its great pretty much all silica I think . I pushed my aqua soil up the back and the sand is at the front and sloping up over the aqua soil. Its such a relief to see the food to sit straight on top, now I can watch them eat they way they like to. It looks so great I nearly dont wont to put the plants back in.

I will post some. So my subsrate keeps my swords alive, which is good. What globes can I get to make the discus glow and the swords grow.

I have sand and swords. My tank gets a fair bit of natural light so I have very minimum lighting on the tank, a red globe in a 2ft fitting and another 18inch with a white light. My swords go nuts. I did put some root tabs under them and I don't add any other ferts. I even have some crypts going mad with out much lighting. I love the root tabs.

How has the sand affected your water parameters?

I have just put the kids play sand in my tank and there is still clay in there but i dont think it will matter to much. I have got the Sylvinia 58w Gro lux T8 globes in my tank and they work good
