Hey,

Well after not having this pair very long they have already spawned and the female is currently looking after about 15-20 free swimming fry!!

Here are the only decent pics I could get, will get some more as they grow.

Marty

well we need to congratulate you on this success but I hope you successfully reloacte the male for his sake. If your tank is large enough you might get away with holding them together but....the risk with this is that they may spawn again quite soon. IF this happens rest assured the female will kill-off the original fry as these will pose a threat to her later brood. The facts are you can't beed with a pair and the loss of a pair is not conducive to ones breeding program. The good news is you will be able to swap fry with those of us also breeding these beautiful Apistogramma and introduce new bloodlines to your colony. Take care and have fun. Q: what are you feeding the fry?

Hey,

Yeah I have heard that it is best to move the male but I'm just waiting on a 2nd 2ft to be ready then I will take him out. The mum does seem very good though and not showing any interest in the male or is this normal? I'm not sure because I would have taken the fry from the parents by now. Normally they are in my 4ft community tank so I have to but these are in a 2ft with 4 pencilfish so thats why I have left them. The last few days I have been feeding them a mix of aquasonic liquid fry food, ground up NLS Grow and frozen BBS. Dont worry live BBS and micro worms are on the way.
