Hey Guys,

i was in a a fish store and i was picking up some frozen food.

a heart+worms and other goodies discus mix, i picked this up from a another store a few weeks ago, they seem to love it.

Anyways i went to a different store and was told, don't feed them land animals, stick to worms and shrimp.

that the heart beef will cut the life on the discus and that breeders tend to use it to beef up the discus fast but it will cut the life of them

so i was wondering what are peoples thoughts on this?

Mine are still fine.... I guess time will tell. In all the time i have kept discus, I found that when my fish have always been in better health while feeding beefheart. IME

Hi Bruce, this argument has been around for a very long time. I've always fed beefheart as part of a varied diet and I've had fish live for 12+ years and I'm not the only one. I know Illusion has had discus live even longer than that, and I'm pretty sure he feeds some beefheart too.

Beefheart should not be the sole food source but it is an easy, and readily available means of boosting the protein content of the food we give our discus.

Ohhh african cichlids are a different thing altogether. A diet high in protein can give them bloat. They need a diet high in vegetables.
