Aquarium Placement

Hello,

I am thinking of buying 4 large discus but am concerned
if they'd be OK based on where their aquarium would be positioned.
I do not really have another place where I can place it in my studio. The 90 gallon is positioned in my living room area and the way to get to the bathroom, closet and exit door of the apartment is to go right by it. I can kind of go around the actual front but have to get close to the front corner in order to turn into the hallway, etc.

The aquarium is currently VERY lightly planted and unless the aquarium is the only light around in the evening, my current algie eaters and corys run toward the back, seeking shelter under the filter when I walk by...

I do plan on planting it heavily. Do you think they will "get to know me" and not have a heart attack when I walk by?

Any help you can provide me with would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ivan, I have 2 tank and 3 very active boys that wrestle play the wii shoot foam bullets at the tank :evil: and run past the tank all the time, I have a very small amount of shrubbbery in the tank and a bit of driftwood but no hidey holes. My fish are not bothered one bit by all the fuss. They scare themselves more than we scare them. Possibly at the start they may be bothered but I am sure in time they will get used to you.

Thank for your kind help San! It is great to learn that everything should be fine.
I just found out that a huge window on the opposite side of the aquarium (opposite wall) may create shadows (as one walks by) that scare them. I plan to give a pair a try...

Just be sure you don't allow direct sunlight on the tank with that window, or your algae eaters are going to have to become little piggys to control the blooms you'll have ;)

Sounds like a go despite a huge North facing window and a path near the aquarium. Thank you Mickey!

They will be fine. I have mine in a high traffic area and the kids run past them all the time. I too have seen the odd Nerf dart hit the tank. The only time mine freak out is when one scares the other and then they both go nuts for a second.

If they do dart around a bit make sure that there are o sharp edges for them to hurt themselves on.

haha yep the nerf darts that's what they are. I caught the kids with the one like a machine gun trying to hit as many fish as they could. Mum wasn't happy but the fish didn't care
