I have very soft water and no kh in my water. So i was just wondering if i went to the beach and collected some shell and crush them up to add to my filter .Would just boiling them for a little while be enough to get rid of any nastys they might have on them before i added them to the filter .

Generally speaking organisums that live in salt water CANT live in fresh water, so the disease risk is very low instead of collecting shells just buy some shel grit from a pet store or even a supermarket, give it a rinse and your away.
