New blue angelfish pair have spawned!

Hi everyone,

just noticed that a newly formed blue angelfish pair have spawned for the first time in their dispay tank

as far as i know there isn't many (if any) people breeding blue angelfish in sydney. These where imported from Singapore only a few months ago.

They are still very young so i do not expect them to get it right but my fingers are crossed anyway. i will probably let them spawn a few times in thier display tank then give them a little breeding tank.

I'm VERY keen to breed these guys becuase they make spectacular display fish.

nice zebra blues matt mate ! yeah best leave them in the display tank for a bit let them get used to defending the eggs keep us updated mate !

not sure if they are zebras though...

i would say that they are a cross between a scalare/peruvian (because of the small upper middle notch) and a platinum blue

i could be wrong but from what i have read that is the most likely combination.

not zebs zebs would have the extra bar and you'd expect lace in the tail, excellent work mate, blue angels were developed here in asutralia by a block who's name escapes me i think he's now dieing of cancer.

I call first dibs on the fry once you get them going :)

Just looked it up it was Ross Patrick of Bayfish australia who developed the first blue angelfish in 2007.

hey matt, glad to see yours are spawning! mine have turned out to be really bad parents - they have eaten batches 1 through 7, so i'm not holding out much hope of ever seeing wrigglers - if yours have paired up out of a larger group, you will probably have better luck. they look great - aren't they just beautiful fish?

yeah they are stunning

my better half thought she saw some eggs tonight with black dots meaning that she thought they where fertalized so she put them into a little tank to see if they are

i'm not holding my breath though cause i couldn't see what she could!

next time they spawn remove the parents, you dont need them to raise the fry.

or you could remove the leaf with eggs on it and put it into a small tank for the first few weeks

that's what i do, it' a very easy way to do it

ok so here's a quick update

the eggs fungused after 24-48 hours and didn't think much of it.

the leaf was located right next to the outlet for a pump so i thought that even if they got it right the current would be way to strong to allow adequate fertalization

my better half Jane thought she saw some eggs that had black dots, but i couldn't see any

after another day or so we noticed a few wrigglers!!!! only half a dozen and they are gone now but at least they are now a proven pair.

i'll let them spawn in the community tank once or twice more to strengthen their bond, then give them their own tank.
