Strictly talking pairs here. Is it normal for one to still want to do dominant over the other. I'm talking a bit of chasing and the odd nip here and there.

They are cichlids and they will bully for top position, that is why they are better in groups of 5 or more. It spreads the aggresion.

If I had a pair, I would not want them to be aggresive towards eachother. Of course they will have an argument on occasion, but I would not want to see them chasing or nipping all the time. My pairs have been very peaceful and work together, happy.

99% of the time they are happily side by side.
0.9% they are happily at opposite ends of the tank.
0.1% they are slightly annoyed at each other.
Sounds better than most marriages to me. ;)

I dont know if they are a pair or not but i believe them to be male and female. Im hoping they are a pair though.
They have exhibited a lot of behaviour associated with pairing up.
