What is your opinion on using a school of tetras to help shy discus feel more secure?

works well, try tetras that like the heat, rummynoses and glowlites do very well, I'm also having good luck with ember tetras.

I was thinking something cheap like neons. Im not bothered if they end up as snacks.

neons dont like the heat, they'll get sick then your discus will eat them and get sick themselves, glowlites arn\t expensive expect to pay about $2each

I have always liked glowlights. Do they school well?

mine school great, they dont seem the slightest bit raciest as they also school with embers.
