Hi
I have an older disus who has white pus building up then seeping from its head it also looks like its secreting a mucus from its body.

Any ideas on medicating it? it isn't showing any signs of distress.

If it were me I would try metro for 10 days, if it is eating I would add to the food, also QT the fish on its own. HTH

sounds like a bad case of hole in the head disease with a secondary baterial infection.

do a nice big water change as big as you can, even better put the fish into a hospital tank.

set temp to 30C (you can go as high as 31C if you like)

add salt to the water 2 tsp/40L

start treatment with metro treat at 25mg/L every 2 days (you'll need to see a vet), before each treatment do a water change (as much as you can but no less then 30%) keep the light off during treatment or just throw a black towel over the hospital tank.

with each water change re dose the salt to keep the concentration at 2tsp/40L (ie if you do a 50% change put 1 tsp back in)

DO not offer food untill day 4, it will just rot and foul your water, from day 4 offer food once per day till its all consumed within 3 min, then step up to 2x a day

with super clean water and metro you should see improvement within 7 days.

keep the fish in the hospital tank for a full 2 weeks after treatment to build it back up.

cooking salt is fine, and cheap. Just make sure it does not have 'caking agents' in it.

rock salt from the supermarket is fine.
