Hi everyone,
I have a 2ft 60L tank that I'm setting up at the moment. It's going to be fairly heavily planted (until I change my mind again  ) and was wondering which Eheim canister everyone would recommend.
So far I have the Ecco Pro 2032, Pro 2222 and Classic 2211 in mind but wondering what the plant nerds would do
Cheers

2211 Should be ok depending on how high up you have the tank 2213 might be better it has a little more head height, 2222 has too much flow imo so you'd have to dial it down a little if thats the case then either of the 2 classics will give you much better value for money.

Thanks mate.
The Pro and the Ecco are both rated at 500L/hr and to be honest I was thinking the same thing re too much flow.
The Classic is only 300L/hr but claims to suit the same size tank as the others. Bigger media volume??

thats it, thats why i favor the classics the 2213 has a real world flow of only 190l/h at a head height of 1m so it will turn over a 60L 3x an hour which is just about prfect, just watch the real world flow of the 2211, i've never tested one to see how it goes it might not cut it.

ironic that plants is another part of the hobby I've moved on from LOL, down to just 4 planted tanks now from 7!!! you'd be amazed at how much power plants use (damn HO lighting :p )

I run 4 Classic 2211s on standard 2 foot tanks (50+ & 60 litres) and have no complaints. In fact I am looking for a few more. Like the ECCO the classic 2211 only draws 5 watts from the grid which I also like. Back in the good ol' days when ASA still existed the 2211 could be snapped up for 90 bucks.

What kind of bio load do you have on the 2211's Hassles?

somewhere between 10 and 50 apistogrammas dependent upon the tank.
I use Eheim substrat pro media also about 1/3 - ceramic noodles about 1/4 and filter wool about 1/3 with a single foam sponge to seperate the noodles and the substrat pro (housed in a stocking). I have the spray-bar directed directly across the water surface eg: horizontally. I often switch these off during feeding times. Noodles at the bottom, then foam sponge, bio media and filter wool at top.
I never use supplied hosing but custom cut/fit my own from hardware store bought clear hosing. I draw boiling water up through the hosing to get it to mould (bend) into the shapes I need and find this method is perfect for those funny and difficult angles, bends & twists.
HTH
take care
