Looks like a cobolt blue to me. It is however always very hard to identify discus of unknown origin. I was tossing up between the cobolt or brilliant turq but it doesn't have the striations I find in BT.

brilliant blue turk and cobalt are practily the same fish anyway.

I would air towards a cobalt, but knowing Mark and his supplier I would think they came from RT stock. Looks like he is stunted badly though.

Hi Dom,

Ok, stunting is what happens when a juvenile fish has not got the best conditions to grow in during it's first few months of life. Generally we put this down to over crowding, poor water conditions, not feeding the right foods, planted tanks, not enough water changes. Can be parasite infestation too.
I see you have a planted tank with gravel and several other fish, this is not really the best condition to raise a small fish. Most people go for a bare bottom tank to raise small fish as water can be kept pristine.

If your fish came from Mark Evenden, a good friend of mine, then this is a Stendker fish. Stendkers come from a huge German hatchery. Many these fish come from the stocks of Red Turqs that he is famous for, this is probably one of the offspring from some of these lines, in whatever form they were crossed.

Sorry Dom, I wrote that and then saw you had sand, so yes, that is far better.
Lots of clean water good food, and you wont go far wrong.
