Hi guys,

I've just joined this forum.
I've got some problems with the discus lately and would like to ask for some advice.

They have become very sick. Eyes are very dark. Fins are rotting. Going pink around the cheeks and around where their spines are. They are constipated and poo is white. Not active at all. One floats and looks as though having trouble breathing.

PH: 6.8.
Nitrite: 0
Ammonia: 0
Tank is 3x1x2. Currently 5 juvies in there.

Water change via tap with added water ager. 40% per week plus 10% around after 3 days water change.
Gravel and planted.

Suspecting they have worms. Help. What should I do?
temp is 29 degrees.

Hi Bamboo,

To me the tank looks new, no algae growth on the pipes, thermostat, plants, driftwood, etc. This makes me wonder if you have "cycled" the tank in preparation for adding your fish.

Are you testing the water before your water changes or after? If you are testing immediately after your 40% change it is likely you are getting false readings particularly in regards to ammonia.

It is of course possible that your fish have worms but there are many posts on this board relating to the treatment of worms and reading those posts could be of some help.

I am calculating your tank to be about 160 litres so your 40% change would be about 40 litres. You may find that upping your water change regime to 50 litres three times a week of benefit to your fish.

Remember too that each mature discus requires 40 - 50 litres of water. To successfully grow out your juveniles you need to be right on top of the water quality at all times.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Bob

Recently my big tank has problem so transfered with old media and water...everything into smaller tank. My big tank is now under preparation. So i hope that clears out why pipes etc are clean and im sure the water has cycled. I kept them for about 7months and i check water parameters during the week not after the wc.
Can someone else also help me confirm the diagnosis. I dont want to treat it for worms if they have some other disease. I also suspect they have holes near the mouth.
Please advise.
