We've got quite a few checkerboard Juvis atm.
They are high quality red turqs bred for that pattern.

i think the picture you showed was more like a pearl pigeon than a checkerboard.... kevs pics where checkerboards
checkerboards, as i understand it, are turqs with a checkered stritation
i could be wrong but that is what i thought anyway.
either way both are fantastic looking strains. i lean more towards the pearl pigeon myself

Matzilla,
You are right, the first picture actually is not a checkerboard, but a pearl-pigeon. Checkerboard is a red-torquise with a certain-pattern. The pattern is medium sized square-shape scattered through the body.
I have never been find a single species in the late few years!

Does anyone know the history behind these guys ?I bought a juvenile Checkerboard from GnS a few months back. At the time they had half a dozen or so and they were priced around $65. The above pic was taken at GnS of the actually fish for sale at the time. Mine looked exactly like the above.
Unfortunately a week or so later I lost it, with a few others due to a fly spray incident.

I may have some to sell soon as i will need to make some room. The fish are now a lot older adn the pattern is a lot more filled in as they get older.
