I am in the process of creating a planted discuss tank... I was considering changing my gravel to akadama soil.

My question it what it the ideal kh and gh for discuss?

The lower the better but it's also best not to play around with your water too much as that can stress the fish - a slightly higher than ideal but constant hardness is far more important than a hardness level which constantly fluctuates as this puts a lot of stress on the fish. Have you measured you tapwater KH and GH?

PS Just noticed you're created a planted tank, you could considere ADA Amazonia substrate as this helps soften and buffer water.

do you have to soak amazonia substrate as well?

ADA recomends that you add it to the tank, fill with water then do a 90% waterchange.
