Discus Not Growing

Hi everyone, i bought 5 discus from a breeder a little over a year ago. 3 of the 5 fish are growing nicely but my 2 red turqs dont seem to be growing at all or very little... i feed them a balanced diet consisting of Beefheart (which is fed at every feeding) frozen bloodworms, frozen white worms, frozen brine shrimp, freeze dried tubiflex worms, new life spectrum pellets and a quality flake food. the fish vigorously eat them all and the red turqs are always the 1st to the food swimming away with fat bellys. The Turqs are very active showing no signs of illness. Would worms cause them to not grow? If so what worms should i treat for? Do you think they could be runts? :shock:

Can you supply more info. Like, what size were they when you bought them? How big now? (all of them)Are they in a bare bottom tank or in a planted tank? How often have you been water changing and how much? What are your water parameters? ie: Ammonia, NitrIte, NitrAte and Ph. Do you keep them in RO or HMA water or striaght tap? Do you add anthing to the water? Can you supply photos of them? whole tank and the small ones.

hey hollowman, Sorry for the lack of info when i bought them they were all about 2 inchs now my brilliant blue, and apricot rainbow are 4 inchs, my red malboro is about 3 and a half inchs and the 2 red turqs are about 3 and a half inchs. but the apricot rainbow brilliant blue and red malboro are way more beefy then the 2 turqs...

Have you wormed them? Love the colour of the blue. How many times a day do you feed them?

hey lpiasente, thanks for the kind reply! :) i feed them about 4-5 times a day. I have not yet wormed them. i was thinking about setting up my spare 55 gallon tank and worming all 5 discus in there. what do you think? do the turqs look stunted? do any of them look stunted for that matter?

Hi Steve, I am not experienced enough to spot a stunted discus, All I know is to feed em up and do plenty of water changes and that will bring them to their full potential. I think you have some very nice bright coloured fish that look happy stunted or not. If they aren't showing any signs of worms then I don't think they need it bt someone here with more experience will help out there.

deworm them in the tank, whit prazi pro.
you need to deworm there hole invoirment.

really deworm them in that tank? i thought i read somewhere that the worms are pooped out still alive and can make there way into the gravel. maybe i miss read.. thanks!

I have a bare bottom so I do worm in the tank. There is some sticky notes on worming have a read of them and see what is suggested. HITH is a disease that discus can get which literally causes holes in the head. There is some info on here as well about that.

Tank volume? Waterchange regime? IMO well grown one year old discus should be 6 inches.
