tomorrow i pick up a 4x2x2 tank
the seller tells me it also has a sump and 3x 1 inch holes drilled in it
whats a sump and do i need one are there any pitfalls with this sort of set up i currently have a 2.5 ft tank and canister filter will this make a good quartine tank or breeding tank

sumps are great, possibley the best filtration around if they are built right
excellent surface area for bacteria growth, great airation and thus degasing, able to hold extremley large bio loads (when "tweaked" right), easy to clean
not so great with planted tanks due to the co2 degassing
your 2.5ftr will make a excellent QT tank :wink:

picked up the tank today friggin massive and the sumps a 3 footer
all new 10 mill weighs a tonne .
no pump though and got to get me some bio balls ?
Mistake when i took the missus with me she says "just where do u think that thing is goining"
its in the garage for now i figure u need to treat them the same as discus
dont change anything for aweek let em get used to it then pounce!

ovi-flow is a pretty good brand of bio-balls

we are both on the gold coast and i was wondering if you would like one day to have a look at my setup and give me some hints
if not i will try to get myself a digi camera and post some pics
