FS: Blue Marron, Adelaide

One blue Marron, no idea of sex, eats discus pellets & catfish wafers.

I'm guessing about 4-5 inches, plus antennae about the same length again.

Have you got any photos of the Blue Marron and possibly any information on them so people will know what other tank inhabitants can live OK with it?

I haven't got photos yet. I could try tonight, but the photography skills are pretty poor. It looks like any other blue Marron (although this link is a grey one). It's blue with ruby eyes.

I've got it in a tank by itself. I was told they need a low protien, high vegetable diet, but it ate the other 2 Marron with it when they moulted.

I wouldn't advise keeping any tankmates with it that you aren't willing to sacrifice. Maybe some top level swimming mosquito fish/ guppies that you're not fond of, that kind of thing.

They're a fresh water crayfish, they grow to around a foot long. Very tasty. And expensive. Sold by weight regardless of whether it's a pet or eating, as they get more as food than pets.

I was hoping to grow them up & maybe get a pair & breed them - clearly it had other ideas.

It's quite entertaining - I had anubias tied to a pot by fishing wire. It started eating the plant, which freed it from the pot, but the wire was still attached both ends. The Marron would stand next to the pot on it's tail, grab the wire at the pot end, haul it down claw over claw, sailor-style, then grab the plant & have a graze before letting it go & wandering off.
