water conditions

I have everything cleaned and the filter is now cycling all over again.In the next month or so I will be adding some plants and doing some landscaping. I have decided to add gravel to the back and sides and keep the front and middle bb maybe adding a small amount of some white sand. I must say everytime I think about setting up discus again I really do get butterflies in my tummy. The tap water conditions here have changed. I am getting a ph of 8 and ammonia in the water. I did some thinking and I came up with this idea is it ok? I will add some sera peat to the tank filter and have a large bin of water being filtered through the peat for water changes as well or would you suggest something else. I am not adding any discus until I have it all set up again properly. Thanks

I'm a bit concerned about ammonia in your tap water. What's the reading ?

You may need to think about using an RO unit. The pH isn't a problem. Peat will bring it down to around 7 and that's fine for maintaining discus.
