does this count as a quarantine?

My friend has a clown loach which for a year and a half has been the only occupant of his tank. It appears very healthy, he is shutting down the tank and offering it to me. I would like to give him a home but wonder about introducing disease to my discus. I have only 1 tank so cant quarantine but wonder does the fact that the clown is healthy and in a tank on it's own somehow negate the need to quarantine anyway?

As long as your friend hasn't recently added some new plants to his tank, I'd be prepared to risk it.

I'm quite sure if the clown loach was harboring some disease, it would have well and truly shown up by now.
