I'm new on raising discus and I've heard that you have to do a lot of water changes daily! How do you guys do a proper water change? Do you add aquarium freshwater salt? Yes, I've tried searching, but it was a mess.

Hi Dan. We try to keep water changes as simple as possible, because we end up doing lots and lots of them :P

Daily water changes are not really needed unless you are breeding, or growing out juvenile fish. Twice a week at 30% of the tank volume is ideal.

You need to add something to neutralize the chlorine and chloramine in the water (like Seachem Prime) but definitely not salt.

If you can list the details of your tap water, then we can advise you if anything else needs to be added.

Oh okay thanks for the reply, I'll let you know when I get my water tested. Should I test my water for; ph, chlorine, nitrate, or nitrate?
