I am just about to order new 4' x 18" x 24" tank and set it up for Discus

The tank will be bare bottom with a few plants, Swords, Crypts etc in terracotta pots for ease of cleaning and water changes, I will add more plants once the Discus get to adult size.

I was thinking along the lines of 6-7 Discus....would that be ok in a tank this size?

I intend to buy an Eheim cannister filter but I'm not sure which one is best suited for this size tank.
The Eheim 2028 was the one recommended to me by my LFS. Could someone please give me a few ideas and thoughts on the best filter for this size tank.
Many thanks, Peter

Hi Carnival you have about a 340 litre tank.
1 Discus per 40 litres so you can have about 8 discus but yes get a really good filter.

The filter recommended to you suits but to 600 litres so it would be ok; best to get a filter that has more capacity than your tank size but hopefully someone else on the forum can give better advice on filters

Thanks for the reply Waitaki, glad to know that I won't be overstocking the tank when I finally get it....can't wait!!
I'm also glad to get a second opinion about the filter (plus a few more opinions I hope), even though my LFS has always given me good advice there is always the thought that its their "business" to sell you as much as they can, so its nice to hear independent thoughts on these things.
Thanks again
