I am about to dose my tank with Big L but i am reading alot of conflicting info as usual. I have a few questions.

Should i dose the tank or soak some food in it?

Dosage rate is 1ml/7ltr but what about the dose for food?

After how long should i do a WC and how much?

I should re treat in 2 weeks?

Thanks in advance....

Hi Ado

There's a sticky here about dosages, etc. It's usually recommended that you follow a schedule of:-

Week 1: Big L
Week 2: Prazi
Week 3: Prazi
Week 4: Big L

The dosages are all in the sticky, though I'm not sure if it mentions the dosage for food. What I did was just soak some pellets in a little bit of Big L for 10mins prior to feeding. Not all my fish take pellets though, so I mainly relied on the dosage of the water column.

One important thing is when dosing the tank, you must switch off tank lights & cover the tank. the meds are (apparently) affected by light.

The main thing i wanted to know is how long before i do a water change.

I was just going to soak some discus dinner in it as well.

How long do i need to cover the tank for?

I can't remember the water change for sure, but I think it's 48 hours, but it's all in the sticky if you read it. I usually leave it covered until the water change. I'm not sure about dosages for discus dinner. It might be in the sticky, but I can't quite recall.

It's one of these, I think.

If not, keep looking as it's definitely there. I've used it.

I think there is another good link there too, giving some extra info about Big L.

Good luck. I hope whoever is sick, pulls through. Fingers crossed.

No probs. I will do a water change tonight.

The only noticable worms before i dosed were hanging slightly out of my Bolivians. I havent noticed any others but they are hanging out alot further from the rams now but are still there. Is this normal? I assume it will take a few treatments to get them all clean again. How long between treatments?

For the Big L / Prazi treatment, it is a week between treatments.

Here is the schedule

Week 1: Big L
Week 2: Prazi
Week 3: Prazi
Week 4: Big L

With water changes 24-48 hours after each treatment A week between each treatment

Im only treating with Big L atm. Is a week between L treatments long enough?

Yes Ado, a week between treatment will be fine.

Make sure you do a really good gravel vac to remove any worm eggs hidden in the substrate.

If the worms are visible in the ram, it means the gut is full of worms, and you may even need a third treatment another week later to completely get rid of them.

Keep an eye on those rams. Large numbers of worms can really damage the gut.

I have not seen any worms protruding from any of the other fish which is a good thing. I may even end up moving them to my small tank once i move house if need be.
