I just did a routine clean on my eheim and two of my Kuhli Loaches were in there  They were sitting in the pre filter under the blue filter pad.. How can I stop them getting sucked in there? I have an Eheim Pro 3 2180 :?

Get onto Ebay and buy some sponge guards, they are a corse filter foam cylinder that fits over the intake strainer, you'll just need to give them a quick rinse every week/ fortnight and you'll be set.

lol :)
If you cut each one in half they fit VERY nicely over the basket, the bonus is also the keep your filter MUCH cleaner (all the solids get trapped before they enter the filter), and you'll often see fish "grazing" on the trapped particals of food.

You could also try your local pool supplies shop, they should also stock coarse sponges. I use them just to stop bits of food filling up my filters.
