As you can see they are in a tank with Alenquers. The Alenquer in the middle shows a dominant heckel bar from crossing in the wild

Very nice fish Rowland, but you are feeding them too much color enhanced food and greens don't look like a green anymore.
As for spawning behaviour, have to wait until february 2009, when raining season begans in Brasil. They still have the biological clock set on that time

I don't feed any colour enhancing food at all. Brine shrimp, tetra bits, earthworms and flake pretty much makes up their diet. The two I think you are referring to arrived with that colour

Hi Rowland, I stopped feeding tetra bits years ago, after it turned my yellow and white fish into an orange fish with pink fins. Not a good look :(

Try some beefheart and vegetable mix, and eliminate the tetrabits from their diet.

Merrilyn got there before me, :wink: the tetra bits and flake will have colour enhancers in them, earth worms and BH will be good, as well as other frozen foods.

Hi all
Just a bit confused. Am I right in assuming that tetra bits contain astaxanthin? If so, am I also correct in assuming that this is a naturally existing product? What confuses me is that if this has contributed to colour enhancing on my greens, why has it not done so with my other wilds?

Colorbits doesnt have astanthaxin in it but it does have betocarotene in it which is were the color is prob coming from

Try some beefheart and vegetable mix, and eliminate the tetrabits from their diet What is a good pellet food to feed the tank for fish that don't like beefheart, that will not do what tetra bits do (colour wise) to my ablino discus. Though the pellet isn't meant for the albino, he's greedy & still goes after it.

PS Rowland, if you are removing the tetra bits from their diet, can you pls show some before & after shots of them in a few months, to see the difference removing it made (that is, if you have time). Besides, I always like looking at more pictures of nice wilds :)
