View Full Version : Red Turk Pair from AHC
ILLUSN

G'day all,
Just thought I'd share some photos of Aarons Grandkids.
I bought this pair off Aaron a while back and had a bit of "breeders error" (left the siphon unattened and sucked the tank too low causing mum and dad to lie on their sides squashing most of their young :banghead )
the last 8 survived and despite my near complete neglect are doing very well, just got them started on beefheart yesterday, so i expect to see some much better growth from now on.

they hatched on the 17th of june with such a small batch i didn't bother using bbs, all taht growth is from feeding off the milk of mum and dad!

Illusn, you definitely have a passion for turq. especially the old fashion straight line one. in a few months (i hope) i will be moving house and going to close down one tank. will give away some discus to good home and i think you might like to have my male red straight line turq. cheers.

Thanks for the comments all, will try and keep the photos coming, but the
tank is in the worse possible spot in the fish room to photogragh, hence all the photos taken at "low tide" during a water change.

Mate I'll give him a good home, always room for one more red turk :D I've actually got a couple of female german reds in desperate need of a mate.
just let me know when your ready.

He's a beauty Ivo. The original straight lined turq's i think looks so much better then the newer pattern.

thanks guys. good old straight line fashion is great but i also like those irregular pattern that make you feel dizzy to look at after a few drinks.

Yeh he's a stunner, especially given the shortage of good quality male turqs out there.

ok i keep him for you illusn. his girlfriend (old type red melon) will be pretty upset without him. i will be giving this red melon away too so if you got room then consider her too since they are a strong bonded pair. other discus listed here i will be giving them to good home later too. old pictures but fish look pretty much the same. let me know whether there is any other you want since i know they definitely will be in good hand at your home.

Ivo, I love your tank setup. Simple but very appealing.
ivo
Fri Jul 11, 2008, 07:42 AM
thanks jason. i think it is more because if i have too much decoration then they will have no room to swim... traffic jam all the time LOL.

Ivo, may I ask what size tank that is and also what filtration you have running. I'm a discus newbie.

I love your tank setup. Simple but very appealing.Agree :thumb it's the dark wood contrasting against such nice, clean white sand, I think. Of course, those beautiful discus don't hurt the look either
ivo
Fri Jul 11, 2008, 11:52 AM
thanks TW. are you happy with your new pool sand?
hey jason, you really don't want to know how big is my tank....it is not big and i have a lot of discus in it. i am a very bad example of discus keeper, however, i do run 3 external filter and do as much water change as i could.

are you happy with your new pool sand? It's not in the tank yet, as I haven't got it clean enough yet. I put a little wet blob of it in the tank, on top of existing sand. It is definitely lighter than what I have, but not completely white. So, I'm happier than I was, but can't really judge till it's in the tank. Taskan mentioned some sort of man made crused gravel that looks like sand, but isn't. It's 15/30 grade & it really is white. It sounds nice. Wish I knew where to find it.

i think taksan said 16/30 grade? i am sure he will tell you where to buy it and then you can tell me :D
sorry illusn, i have just realised that i have completely hijacked your thread for so long and not knowing it. sorry mate, it was not intentional.

hi waitaki, got some little wrigglers each spawn but they usually either got blown away by filter outlet or they got sucked away by filter inlet. they keep laying eggs on filter pipe so i guess that would be the natural outcome. my camera is not good enough to capture little wrigglers but managed to take a picture that if you have magnifying glass you may be able to see the few surviving wrigglers before they were sucked away. hope you find them on the pipe!

thanks for the replies Everyone.
I like to leave them in the spawning tank till they are 2 months old and around the 1.5" mark, they handel moves ALOT better when they are a little bigger.
Aaron, you raised these fish mate, its cause of your care they grew up to be decent breeders, all i did was condition them mate, the credit is all yours :)
heres hopeing i dont squash this batch.
