what is the minimum temp for keeping Discus, currently in my tank i am setting up for them i have 6 neons and 2 bronz corys. at 24 deg, i was thinking about a pleco for alge control too, i'm intrested to know what fish you guys keep with Discus and what's ur PH/TEMP

My Ph sits on 6.5 and temp is 29.8, Discus require higher temps than most tropical fish.. I keep cardinals, rummynose tetras, Corydoras and 2 mystery snails with my discus :wink:

from what iv'e read about 28c is about the lowest u want to really go with discus, 24c is too low. i recently read about someone keeping discus at 24c and he recons there ok, but ur opening urself up to problems and all sorts of diseases. pleco's arn't a good tank mate for discus as there are lots of stories about pleco's latching onto the sides of discus and eating the slime coat.
bristle nose catfish are a good tank mate though...

Temperature of the water in their natural habitat varies from 25 – 33 C ( 82-88 F). 24 is anyway too low. Most experts believe that 86 F / 30 C is the best.

Scott..I think Weather Loach can survive upto 25 degree C, Kugli 29 degree C and Clown Loach 30 degree C, while Cardinal tetra's can withstand upto 29.. how are your fishes surviving at 32, thats great.. how did you get them adopted to that kind of temperature ?

32 ? Don't think so, unless you force them to adopt to that situation. Loach experts don't agree beyond 30 anyway..

i got them in my tank with light on 32C with lights off 30c 400w CF raises 650L by 2C a day. been there for over a year with no problems.

Sure it does.. if you are doing it and your fishes have survived, it proves it can be done.. what I am talking about is the suitable temp for these fishes..

Fishes can adapt just like us human's.. We also live in the arctic and sahara, because we have adopted to those temp's, but then, those are not really our unique survival temperatures.

I would say that we are able to remove clothes when things get hot, likewise we wrap up when it gets cold. Fish on the other hand cannot tollerate huge swings in temperature, as we couldn't survive without clothes in extreme conditions.
