Hi,
my 450ltr planted discus tank has recently just finished cycling and now has disucs back in there. All my plants now have this brown stuff over there leaves and on the pipes and glass etc, it comes off easy when you rub it with your fingers and i want to no is this just the after affects of a cycle and will it settle down soon??? Maybe caused by ammonia in the tank??? Cheers Axl

I've seen a brown type buildup over my plants and driftwood before which I'm guessing was caused by over fertilisation or too much nutrients in the water.
Have u got a pic mate... that might help alittle more?

Yeh thats the stuff. Have you added any ferts to your water recently?
I've just started using C02 so i'm learning from some very good sources how to maintain the optimum environmental balance for a planted tank.
I added loads of ferts a few weeks back and this same brown stuff appeared everywhere in my tank.

Im running co2 and have got dupla g as my substrate, My light is around 2.4wpg and i usually fert 10ml 3 times a week of my own mix which has got kno3 and a mix of yates products. But the past week i have been going 15ml to get the plants growing but this has obliviously created it. I will cut back my fert to maybe 10ml twice a week. Whats your thoughts
