Hello! I am going to add an Aqua Nova canister filter to supplement the built-in filter of an AR-980 tank. Would I be ok hanging the intake and outlet pipes off the top of the hood, or would I need to cut into the hood so that these pipes are a bit lower and closer to the water level?
Would it make a difference to the workings of the filter one way or the other?
thanks

I just run the pipes in from the back and down through the holes in the filter until. I don't use Aqua nova filters only Eheims so they fit easily.

Aqua Novas tend to develop leaks after a while (sometimes even a couple of months) either from their taps or from the main seal. Nothing a bit of vaseline and teflon tape can't fix. But its pretty disheartening when you come home to find ur floor all wet. I know from personal experience and now all my canisters are eheims. IMO even second hand eheims are betta than getting a new aqua nova.

Get Ehiems, you wont regret it, bulletproof IME. But don't just take my word for it. :)
