Filter Pads

I have quite a few of the Eheim pro II & always buy the recommended EHFISYNTH eheim white filter pads, instead of cutting my own, like I did for the Aqua-one's. I think somewhere I read for the Pro's it's recommended you stick with the EHFISYNTH Filter pads, rather than DIY.

It is really necessary? What is EHFISYNTH Filter anyway?
