Hi Nitecongt,

Firstly, I would like to say that you have a lovely tank, I really like the planted look, I have never been great with plants, so my hat is off to you.

But, even though 'you' are happy with your fish, they do show the classic features/signs of being stunted. I often feel that honesty is the best policy when people show fish, and when people say 'nice fish' it upsets me and only perpetuates the way that sellers get away with selling poor/low quality or ungraded fish, to those who know no better.

I agree they have nice colours, and are probably eating well and are friendly, but all are stunted, or have peppering, which are not desired traits in discus.
Education is the key here, we all need to get together to make sure we know what makes a good fish, and how to avoid being ripped off by sellers or lfs's. Cheap fish are not always a good investment, you risk disease, stunting and death, not always a great start to keeping such a beautiful fish.

thanks Hollowman!

I'm not sure as to what a stunted fish looks like?
in my pictures the fishez fins are not completely opened up if that makes sense? i dont know if that makes a difference to what you are saying but.
and by peppering you mean the black spots? I can see what you your saying with that.

thanks for your feedback!

a few changes after the clean up with all the nastys removed
 got a new filter with a built in UV. alot higher flow rate than the old one.
dropped out a few plants here and there to give the fish a little more room, and took out some of the drift wood which the khuli loach are seeming to miss

There's something about ur tank which really appeals to me. It looks so natural...... I absolutely love it. What are your tank specs?

Nitecongt
Tue Apr 29, 2008, 02:35 AM
specs are:

71x71x71 (cm) two sides and the front payne
the small diagonals are 21cm each
and the depth is around the 51cm mark.
I have 4x tubes for lighting, a mixture of
1xblue
1xred
2xwhites

is that what you were after?

seems really small with 5 discus in there. but it is a good size for the office

I miss my olde ghost knife fish after seeing yours mate. Again you've posted some fantastic shots, all very clear and precise. I'm still a fan of your tank....;)

I've wanted to keep some glass catfish for awhile now. Have you had any problems or trouble with yours?

Your spiney looks awesome :D

actually I have had a bad batch, a few of them ended up with really bent spines (so bad they could only turn one way and swam in circles).

but they didnt last long as they couldnt get enough food to eat + I had a fair sized gudgeon; who picked them off one by one until he ate my favorite.... but couldnt swallow cause it had eaten him backwards first and the fins wouldnt go down.....:) so it was back to the LFS for him.:(

lol thanks for the advice mate. I might buy a couple and see how they go first before going overboard with numbers.
