Mike Wise suggests without seeing a picture they are probably A masken - as I beleive flaggy has in Sydney. Certainly makes more sense that we would have a more 'common' fish here in Brisvegas rather than something rare.

I have now looked more at mine - at more pictures on the net - and at another pair in the fish store.
The pair in the fish store now are a more mature pair showing nicer colours. (Look to be paired up and about to breed). Again there bigger one is a female. The smaller one is the male and showing the male identifying marking on the tail.
Comparing back to mine - my small one occasionally I can see hints of the makings on the tail. Mrs Gingerbeer - who has much better eyes - says it is there too. So this suggests my young one is a male. There young male when not as excited was showing the same barring as mine - hence juvenile colouring.
As to whether they are Regani, Masken or something else - I am buggered if I know yet. Once male gets bigger and fully colour up will hopefully have more of a clue.
(I would have grabbed the other pair but Mrs Gingerbeer would have killed me - and I had to grad one of there green lotus plants - nice and big for the price too)
I will leave for another week and decide in a couple of weeks whether to go hunt for more.
Any QLD guys shoot me a pm and I can let you know where they are if you want them. They are also on the Bay list so should be avaiable elsewhere.

Definite pair - eggs last night. Didn't think the young guy had it in him.
Not sure exactly which in the complex they are yet - there is a lot of colour variability in the girl. The male is still just a striped fish.

Went away for a couple of days and came home to f/s fry. Probably about 50. The female is quite plastic in colour display and at one stage I was convinced she was a he as she was displaying to a female borelie looking quite male (kinda like an A sp. Masken in body colour.)

Hi there,
Hope i am not butting into your conversation but could not help noticing your female.
She is super!
Are you having truble getting type name?
They look very much like the pr of Maccasteri I had a while back (and I lost, due to inexperience).
Good luck with your babies.
Are they good parents?

Thanks for the comments
The top picture is the male TW, hard to believe as he is only a young teen himself.
They are from the regani group - but not sure which. best picture match is in CA2 peru regani - which Mike Wise says is actually masken...

I think half the time the shops tell us the name we want to hear when we buy.
The maccasteri were exactly the same but with more definate stripeing on the body and little colour.
Back to work tomorrow so talk again next wkend.
