Mate pics aren't too bad considering your using an old Kodak Easyshare cam, or at least I think u said you were....;)

I love your new wild and the Red Alencer looks like a nice fish too. How many have you got in that tank?

your using an old Kodak Easyshare cam, or at least I think u said you wereGood memory, yes old &, very basic Kodak Easyshare. Lucky discus are slow swimmers - most fish come out a blury mess. Also, whenever I am in front of the tank with camera, they all gather waiting for food. They're easier to take pics of than most of my fish.


How many have you got in that tank?
There is 1 red melon, 1 mixed albino, 1 super red alenquer, 1 red alencer, 1 tank bred heckle, 1 wild royal blue, 1 blue diamond & 1 turk.

None are adults (royal blue is biggest). Xtreme said he still had a little growing to do.

They are being moved shortly into a 6ft tank, where I think the rule of 8 adult discus per 45L means I could have one more, if I find another wild I like.

lol... you sound like me. I'm making plans for a nice 6ft tank too. Just need to find the money somewhere.....;) Then my discus numbers will surely grow..... hahaha

I won bet/deal & the prize is he's financing the tank. Hold up is we have to block up a window the tank will sit in front of. Once that's done, should happen fairly quickly.

Ok, some basics for the Discus lovers out there...

Any Discus which resembles a Solid Black vertical line in the centre only is trates of a "Heckel" Discus. Linking back to the original wild form.
(The first 3 pics on the top line resemble this trait.)

All Discus have 8 Bars, menaing 8 Stress Lines vertically along the side, where as a "Snakeskin" mutation from the original strain has 11-13 lines or more.
(The third line of Solid Red Discus are evident of these bars.)

Alenquer is a wild strain origin, and sorry to say, but Alencer is not a recognised name, and may have been called so by the store selling....?? Alencer has no meaning in the Discus trade?? SO I think they are both Alenquer if they are of a Deep Tomato Red colouration. Lighter Orange Red is of Marlboro origin from Pigeon mutation.

All Discus have originated from the 4 recognised Wild Strains.

If you would like to learn more, I highly recommend the Discus Catalogue by Martin Ng. This Folder explains the origins, mutations and breeding lines for all the different Strains in the trade, excluding Albino's.. Which is still up in the air as to how all the different Albino types originated. At this stage, its still a guess, and hidden secret..

I am very proud of my 1st wild & hope to get more.

I love the shots you took. Wayne. Thanks for putting them up. Damn my lousy camera. I just can't capture his true beauty. Do you mind if I load the picture into my photobucket album? I think I will make one of them my wallpaper.

His body is already a deeper brownish colour (touch of red) - but you really captured his true colours, as they were when I picked him up. Not sure which look I like better now, that light yellow of your shots looks so very nice.

Although he is my biggest fish, he seems the most timid at feeding time. Doesn't seem to like to push & shove to get his fair share. I hope he gets more assertive.

Thanks for getting me such a great fish.

I have yet to see a discus with 8 bars, maybe I need to get out more, 9 bars, however I have seen.

Snakeskins are most commonly found in 14 bars, the original snakeskins had 9 bars with a finer pattern, and they produced some 14 bar snakeskins.

I have seen many san merah/red rose/red cover with more than 9 bars, so maybe your alenquer is one of them (being all brown based fish)

Regarding the heckel. Heckel is a person as Alenquer is a region, not a fish or a bar. There are brown fish with dominant 5th bars that are in no way related to heckels.

Yeah, I really love him & he is doing well & getting a nice colour. Plus that last photo - the colours are pretty much true to life. That's what he looks like.
