I wormed my fish with Levamisole last night. It all went really well, I soaked some of their granule food in the solution and they ate a little bit, then they started to spit it out, but being the gluten's they are, it got the better of them and they finally ate their food. I tipped the rest of the Big L into the tank.

I am unsure what to do now. Do I do a water change today or tomorrow and when do I repeat the dose, also do I need to run carbon through my filter to get rid of the meds after the full treatment is finished?

Thanks

Kell

There are a couple of sitckys here, that helped me a lot.

http://www.discusforums.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13278&highlight= and http://www.discusforums.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4547

After reading them & then getting extra advice, here's what I did:-

week 1: Big L - water change anytime after 24hrs. Lights out during treatment
week 2: Prazi - 48 hrs after dosing, cleaning filter
week 3: Prazi - 48 hrs after dosing, cleaning filter
week 4: Big L - water change anytime after 24hrs. Lights out during treatment

I can't remember if you have to have lights out during Prazi treatment, but I did turn them off. Someone else might know, or the sticky's might say whether that's necessary or not. Hope this helps.

Thankyou so much for that TW. A bit of a bummer but because I left my lights on during the treatment, I did not realise that Levamisole was light sensitive.

Kind Regards

Hi Guys,

I think you may be possibly thinking of Metro to be the medication used with lights off? There are a few threads listed that Metro needs no lights. TW, can you please confirm where you heard that Big L is effected by lights? No other thread here says lights effect it and i did a google search and the only thing coming up with "Big L, lights off" is something about a rapper called Big L . If light effects Big L we may need to list it in the sticky. Cheers.

BIG L is most certainly affected by lights and its highly recommended that you turn them off during use.

Great, thanks for the quick confirmation Matt. I also was just reading through the article Merrilyn posted and the Levamisole Hydrochloride Chemical Composition section also states that its light sensitive. Good to confirm.

Yes, I read all the postings on using Big L but silly me did not read that particular url. Even though I treated with the lights on, my discus poo is now solid (no little stringy bits) so hopefully it has done some good. I will defently be treating with the lights off for the second treatment. I just wish that it treated gill fluke because my fish are doing it hard (mostly one fish, Delyla).

Thanks to everyone for your help

Thanks Matt for reply for me about the light & Big L issues.

Aaron81, in my earlier response, I posted the link to sticky that was originally posted by Merrilyn. The link I gave was http://www.discusforums.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13278&highlight= and the article link is inside the sticky opened by the link.

I just completed my first Levimasole treatment and my discus did not pass any worms, is it still necessary to do a follow up treatment in a weeks time?
