Hello all Apisto Fans,
As you are aware, there are quite a few types of Apistos from wild form to new varieties bred in captivity.
Is anybody aware of the latest list of names for the Apistos and also with photos ?
My main reason for asking, is that I would like to know if my apsitos varieties also occur in the wild or not.
IE Apisto SP Erdfresser - occurs in the wild
then Apisto Agazzi double body red- does this morf also occur in the wild.
Anyway, just would like a list and photos is anybody can help.
cheers nd have a good weekend 8-)
PS could not find list and photos in Apistogramma Forum

Hey bigbird,
I like to use Google for my search,
Mike Wise has some interesting articles, Other members may have more suggestions for you too - to help you out with what you are looking for, fishgeek & ThOmas are members here in this forum & probably the most experienced when it comes to Apisto's, send them a PM (private message) & they will be able to steer you in the right direction, be carefull & make sure you know your LFS (Local fish shop) as some of us have purchased "wild caught: apisto's in the past from our LFS & it is questionable if that particular fish is 'Wild caught" any LFS can sell you a fish & tell you it's wild caught....don;t get "caught" out with that one.
Good luck - I keep only Apistogramma's & breed them, just love them.

As Th0mas said, the place for really up to date apisto info is on apistogramma.com. We just pretend we know what we are talking about
(Pulls on pretending hat) The A. erfdresser does occur in the wild and so does the A. agassizi but as to whether the "Double Body Red" is naturally occuring is another story.
I'd probably put money on it being a man made variant rather than a wild thing.
As for a list, I just googled this. (Didn't read any of it so there could be some rubbish names in there)

On inspection it actually looks pretty accurate. There aren't the stupid names like A. marine and A. shushupiddidoobidoo. Now I can't find where I found it :?

You can always get books like Cichlid Atlas 1 & 2 (2 came out not too long ago). And if there's any specific information (or specied) not covered there or you need an ID, guys (Mike Wise, etc) from apistogramma forum will sort you out.

You will find "those names" in the Apistogramma Registry - my post.
