I found two tanks with the oddest dimensions. I was wondering how you all thought it would look with discus.

First is an 85-gal that's 6'L x 14"W x 19"H

Second is a 140-gal that's 3'L x 2'W x 3'H.

Or should I go with a 125 that's 6'L x 18"W x 2'H

Or a 120H that's 4'L x 2'W x 2'H

Or maybe a 120 that's 5' long.

Let's ignore the whole "greater the volume of water and larger the surface area" question and skkip right to which tank would look most aesthetically pleasing. I'm planning for this tank to be planted with maybe some cardinal tetras, serpae tetras, or rummynoses (and discus, of course).

Thanks!

go for the tank with the bigest footprint, more space for your fish and plants, better options for aquascaping, better light intensity, anything over 2 foot deep you'll need to go metal halides to get good light to the bottom.

my choice would be the 4x2x2 for aquascaping, followed by the 6x18x2.

wheres the poll option for all of the above?

interesting... so everyone seems to like the 4x2x2. Do you guys personally think it looks better than a 6x1.5x2? I currently have a 125 (6x1.5x2) as a non-discus tank, and I love watching my school of silver dollars swim across it. I kinda figured that discus would present the same sort of look, but I've never seen a really nice discus set-up before, so maybe they look better in a more "square" tank like a 4x2x2?

I just think a 4x2x2 is a happy medium. Not too small but not as big as a 6x1.5x2.

Personally, I would go with the 4x2x2.

I have a 3x18"x2 high tank for my discus, but that is mainly due to space constraints for the particular spot I have it situated in my house.

I have a 4 x 2 x 2

and i wish it now was a 6 x 3 x 2.

It never really stops you always wanta bigger tank. saying that a 4 x 2 x 2 is a fair choice if space is an issue.
