What would be some fast growing plants for a backdrop? I need to recover from a pleco who has eaten my swords.

Wisteria, Rotala walchari, Giant Ambulia, and Vallis, are all good backdrop plants that grow happily at 30-32 oC in my tank....

How about crypts or chain swords, can they handle temps around 29-30 degrees?

If you go to this site http://www.tropica.com/default.asp & do a search on discus, there are 2 good articles about discus & suitable plants. You can then also have a look at the plant profiles, which gives min/max temp. ranges for a lot of aquatic plants.

Lots of plants can handle the temps, especially crypts and swords as have been already mentioned.

Just keep in mind how much lighting you have and how often you want to be pruning your tank and annoying your Discus by trimming etc. My non Discus tank is full of stem plants which grpw so fast they need constant pruning. If you want just a low maint tank go with things like crypts, anubias and java fern and you will do well.

Cheers,
