Dear Friends:

I have a few pieces of anubias and they covered with black hairy growths on the leaves' surface...

Is it some kind of algae?

Any tips on how to remove?

Thanks.

It could also be staghorn algae. If it forms long strands that branch like tree limbs or antlers (hence the name) and in sunlight is actually dark green, rather than black, it's staghorn.

Staghorn is a real PITA. I tried everything to get rid of it - blackouts, UV, American flag fish, SAEs, bristlenoses etc. The only way that worked is removing every single plant that has it. Don't try to pull it off, you'll only spread it. Just remove the entire leaf / steam / plant. Low light slows it down, but doesn't kill it.
