I just received 3 bottles of Flagyl to treat 15 discus in my 6x 2 x 2 tank. I almost fell over when i got the invoice. $89 each bottle which is $267 plus $60 consultancy plus $30 for the initial 30 ml of flagyl plus $18 for a poo sample test. Thats $375 to treat $400 worth of fish and 2 of them were too far gone. I don't mind paying to treat illnesses and would rather that than see them die but sometimes you have to weigh things up i guess.

Does that sound right? or have i been overcharged for the Flagyl?

Kevin.

Sorry, that may help. 100ml bottles.

Also i added 1.25ml / litre as prescribed by the vet (18.75ml into 15l) and within 2 hrs i had a small diamond turn white and die, a yellow diamond keel on its side and its all but dead, a large snow leapard adult is sidewas almost dead and a medium turk dead. All were "sick" but no way looked like dying in the next few hours. They ere not eating but all swimming around normal a few hours back. Any ideas? Is the dose too high?

whats the concentration of the stock solution?

aim for 25mg/L.

sounds VERY wrong.

Flagyl price is a bit high, try to find a sympathetic GP a script of 21 400mg tablets is only $12

Hi,

The bottle says the concentration id 200mg / 5ml. So 40mg /1ml. 1.25 ml would then be equal to 50mg / Litre?

So thats double? Doesnt seem like enough to do such horrible things to the fish?

that would be 2000 mg per 10 gallons, maximum I've gone is 1000 mg. 2000 should kill your fish or cause permanent damage imo.

oral suspension can often have sugar to enhance palatability in people... sugar in your tank will quickly lead to bacterial blloom and depletion of dissolved oxygen

if a proffesional has charged you for advice they should be able to explain all the queries you are making included in that fee... ring them and ask what is suppossed to be happening

the dosage your vet gave you is DOUBLE what I'd use 18.75ml@40mg/mL=750mg. That much in 15L =50mg/L.

I've used liquid Flagly before with no ill effects, it didn't smell sweet, but Fishgeek would be the person to know, to be honest when i used it i mixed it in with dry food.
