Hello,
I am new here but I have been running FW tanks for 15 years. I currently use the Magnum 350 on my 55 gal tank.

I think that when you clean the filter you are going to disturb your beneficial bacteria but if you have gravel, plants or other decorations in your tank it wont be much of a problem.

I would only worry about it if you have a bare bottom tank. You could rinse the sleeve under aquairum water (just stick it in a bowl of aquarium water and keep squeezing and adding more tank water until it is looking pretty clean.

If you are not changing the carbon it will still hold a lot of the beneficial bacteria. You could also replace the carbon with some other kind of filter media that you can just rinse in the same way and put back in.

You might also clean the sleeve and filter media at different times.

This is also why a lot of people run a sponge filter that they can change at different times.

Hope that helps! :)
